Coronation Street star Simon Gregson has revealed his future as Steve McDonald following his 35-year stint on the soap.
The actor has been a near-mainstay on the cobbled streets of Weatherfield since making his debut in 1989, with the character being married on seven occasions to five different women across the past three decades.
Despite his lengthy stint on the ITV soap, Gregson shared during an appearance on the People Are Deep podcast that he had no plans to leave his role in the near future, with the actor expressing his desire to remain on Corrie forever.
“I wouldn’t say no to being in Coronation Street, playing Steve, for the rest of my life,” said Gregson. “For me it was never about ambition. It was never about treading the boards and trying new things.”

“For me it was always a job, you know, a regular wage. I love what I do. I love the people that I work with. So as long as they’ll have me, and pay me, I’ll stay,” added the actor, who has also appeared in I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!.
While Gregson is happy to remain on Corrie, the ITV soap recently said goodbye to a character as Lou Michaelis made her exit, with the character set to spend some time behind bars following her attack on Gary Windass.

Farrel Hegarty, who debuted as Lou in February, recently spoke of her exit, saying: “It was really sad. On your last day on set, they give you a little round of applause. Julia [Goulding, who plays Shona Platt] is one of my best mates and she popped round the corner.”
“I think Coronation Street is such an amazing platform, and I’ve had a couple of auditions, so we’ll see what comes out of it. You never know what’s around the corner,” she added about her future plans.
