Donnie Wahlberg is officially back in action as Detective Danny Reagan in a new Instagram video that sees filming underway for the eagerly awaited Blue Bloods spinoff, Boston Blue. @onlyinbos caught the Blue Bloods favorite, walking the streets of the new title’s titular city, dressed in his detective’s best and alongside his new partner, Sonequa Martin-Green’s Lena Silver. Together, the pair cross the street and scan a busy park for their perp. Once the suspect is spotted, a chase ensues with Donnie and Lena in hot pursuit of their target before the set video comes to an end.
It’s exciting for Blue Bloods fans to see things begin to come together on the set of Boston Blue after the original series came to an end last year after an incredible 14-season run. An offshoot was up in the air for a while, but once it was announced that Wahlberg’s Danny would be moving up north, fans were locked in and ready to go. While we’ll miss the other members of the family and the dynamics that they brought to the storyline, we’re just as excited to meet an entirely new group of personalities — this time putting Danny as the odd man out.
For now, we know that along with Martin-Green as Danny’s new partner, Lena Silver, the cast will be filled out by Ernie Hudson (The Basketball Diaries) as Lena’s grandfather and minister, Reverend Peters, Gloria Reuben (ER) as Lena’s mother, Mae Silver, who also happens to be the city’s district attorney, Marcus Scribner (black-ish) as Lena’s younger brother, Jonah Silver, and Maggie Lawson (Psych) as Lena’s stepsister, Sarah Silver. Danny might be used to working with his own family, but we’re excited to see what happens when he’s thrown into the ring with an entirely new set of relatives.
Will ‘Boston Blue’ Feature Any Other ‘Blue Bloods’ Alumni?
Although the team behind the Blue Bloods offshoot are certainly keeping things on the hush-hush when it comes to possible cameos and guest spots, we do know that at least one familiar face will make her way up to Boston to support her sibling. Bridget Moynahan, who appeared in the flagship series as Danny’s younger sister, Erin Reagan, is set to hold down a guest-starring role, while the new series will also examine Danny’s relationship with his youngest son, Sean, who will now be played by Mika Amonsen, having previously been portrayed by Andrew Terraciano.
