A major change is coming to the Blue Bloods universe as CBS gears up for the premiere of its highly anticipated spinoff, Boston Blue. The role of Sean Reagan, played by Andrew Terraciano for all 14 seasons of the original series, has officially been recast.

Instead of Terraciano, rising star Mika Amonsen known for his performance in the horror film Thanksgiving will now take on the part of Danny and Linda Reagan’s youngest son. The decision marks a bold shift for the franchise as it enters a new chapter beyond New York City.

In Boston Blue, Donnie Wahlberg’s Danny Reagan trades his NYPD badge for one in Boston, taking on new challenges in unfamiliar territory. The show follows Danny and Sean as they navigate their fresh start — both professionally and personally with Sean now serving as a Boston PD patrolman.

According to CBS, the younger Reagan’s relocation to Boston represents his desire to honor the family’s law enforcement legacy on his own terms. Meanwhile, Danny’s decision to remain in Boston opens the door for a more meaningful father-son dynamic in this next evolution of the Reagan story.

Joining Wahlberg and Amonsen in the spinoff is a stellar cast including Sonequa Martin-Green, Gloria Reuben, Ernie Hudson, Maggie Lawson, and Marcus Scribner. While the full list of returning characters remains under wraps, fans are eager for surprise appearances from original Blue Bloods favorites.

Reflecting on the end of Blue Bloods, Wahlberg shared with Entertainment Weekly how emotional the final days on set were:
“I remember showing up that morning, and there were so many more crew members around than usual. Everyone knew it was the end,” he recalled. “We tried to stay focused on the work, but you could feel the weight of the moment.”

With Boston Blue now on the horizon, the legacy of the Reagan family continues just in a new city, with fresh faces, and a storyline that’s ready to carve its own path.
