With Blue Bloods officially wrapping its long-running series with Season 14 earlier this year, fans have been wondering: Is this really the end of the Reagan family on TV? Donnie Wahlberg, who played Detective Danny Reagan for over a decade, just added fuel to the fire — with a comment that no one saw coming.
During an appearance on a recent podcast interview promoting his upcoming projects, Wahlberg was asked directly about the possibility of a Blue Bloods spinoff. His answer? Unexpected — and surprisingly open-ended.
“Let’s just say… the Reagan story might not be finished yet,” Wahlberg said with a smile.
“I think there’s a lot more to explore, whether it’s Danny’s story or someone else’s. We’ll see.”
The casual tone of his response caught listeners off guard, especially considering the show’s seemingly definitive farewell earlier this year. Though no official spinoff has been confirmed by CBS or the show’s producers, Wahlberg’s comments suggest that conversations might be happening behind the scenes.
From Series Finale to New Beginnings?
Blue Bloods concluded with a satisfying but emotional finale, bringing closure to many major arcs while still leaving room for future possibilities. In particular, Danny’s character was left at a crossroads — professionally stable, but personally still evolving.
Rumors of a spinoff focusing on either Danny Reagan, Erin Reagan (played by Bridget Moynahan), or even a younger generation of Reagans have been circulating for months. Wahlberg’s remarks may be the first real sign that such rumors have some truth behind them.
“There’s a reason we didn’t kill anybody off,” he added with a laugh.
“The door’s open. And if there’s a good story to tell, I’m in.”
Fans React Online
Following the interview, social media lit up with speculation and excitement. On X (formerly Twitter), fans began trending #BlueBloodsSpinoff within hours.
One user posted:
“Danny Reagan isn’t done? SAY LESS. I’m ready. Give Donnie a whole spinoff.”
Another wrote:
“If we get a show focused on Danny and Baez solving cases, I will watch every single episode. Twice.”
CBS Hasn’t Confirmed — Yet
As of now, CBS has made no formal announcements regarding a Blue Bloods spinoff. However, given the show’s impressive run (14 seasons, consistently strong ratings, and a passionate fanbase), the network may be considering ways to keep the franchise alive in some form.
Donnie Wahlberg, for his part, seems open to returning — if the story is right:
“We built something special with Blue Bloods. If we can keep that spirit going in a new way, why not?”
