CBS is steadily building excitement for its upcoming Blue Bloods spinoff, Boston Blue, and the latest casting news marks a major milestone in development. With production set to begin later this summer, the network has finalized the ensemble that will join Donnie Wahlberg in this next chapter of the Reagan universe.
The Silver Family Takes Shape
The most recent addition to the cast is Maggie Lawson, who will play Sarah Silver, the Boston Police Superintendent and half-sister of Wahlberg’s new partner, Detective Lena Silver. Sarah is described as sharp, no-nonsense, and fiercely loyal to her city and her family. Her position of authority is expected to create both tension and intrigue as she navigates department politics and family dynamics.
Joining her is Marcus Scribner, cast as Jonah Silver, the youngest of the Silver siblings. Jonah is a rookie patrol officer with a lot to prove and a tendency to rely on charm more than experience. His character is expected to bring youthful energy and fresh perspective to the force—and perhaps some comic relief.
Ernie Hudson has also joined the cast as Reverend Charles Peters, the patriarch of the Silver family. A moral anchor and respected community leader, Reverend Peters adds a deeper generational perspective to the family dynamic, similar to the role Tom Selleck’s Frank Reagan played in Blue Bloods.
Gloria Reuben will portray Mae Silver, a district attorney and the mother of Lena, Sarah, and Jonah. Strong, intelligent, and complex, Mae’s relationship with her children—especially as they work within the same justice system—will be a central thread in the show.
Returning Favorites and New Partnerships
As previously announced, Sonequa Martin-Green will star as Detective Lena Silver, Danny Reagan’s new partner. Her presence marks a shift in tone for Wahlberg’s character, who is now entering a new city, a new team, and a new set of emotional challenges.
While Wahlberg remains the center of the series as Danny Reagan, Boston Blue is designed to be more of an ensemble piece. The focus on the Silver family adds a fresh layer of storytelling, one that mirrors the multi-generational structure that made Blue Bloods so popular but with a distinctly Boston flavor.
Will Familiar Faces Return?
In recent interviews, Wahlberg has left the door open for legacy characters from Blue Bloods to make appearances. While no official confirmations have been made, fans are holding out hope for cameos from beloved figures like Tom Selleck’s Frank Reagan or Bridget Moynahan’s Erin Reagan. Wahlberg noted that “the spirit of the original show is alive and well” in Boston Blue, and hinted that “anything is possible” when it comes to reunions.
Fall 2025 Premiere Target
Boston Blue is slated to premiere in Fall 2025, taking over the familiar Friday 10 PM slot long held by Blue Bloods. With a mix of family drama, law enforcement action, and moral complexity, CBS aims to recapture the success of the original series while introducing a fresh dynamic that reflects today’s evolving social landscape.
