SHOCKING SECRET FOR YOU!! Chris Gascoyne’s first major role after Coronation Street revealed

Coronation Street fans will know Chris Gascoyne best as loveable rogue Peter Barlow, with the actor having played the role since 2000, but he is set to hit our screens again in a completely different role next week. Now, Chris is taking on a new role alongside soap legend Jill Halfpenny in new Channel 5 drama The Feud, which is set to hit our screens on Monday.

The Feud is a six-part series that explores Emma and husband John’s (Rupert Penry-Jones) close friendships with their neighbours, and how things begin to spiral out of control when they make the seemingly ordinary decision to add an extension to their kitchen.

Jill Halfpenny is also set to star in the thrillerAs objections to the plans are raised, unexpected skeletons and life-threatening secrets begin to rise to the surface. Laced with menace, The Feud reveals how Emma’s aspirational dream turns sharply into obsession, paranoia, and fear.

‘Sometimes you make these decisions in your life where you’re like, my head is telling me yes, but my stomach is going, “This is a terrible thing to do!” And that’s what Emma does throughout the whole of this series,’ actress Jill Halfpenny revealed on last night’s episode of The One Show.

‘She just steamrolls ahead, knowing all the while, “I don’t think this is a great idea”. It’s going against everything that her stomach is telling her, but she just steamrolls.’

Chris and Jill are not the only soap stars set to appear in this new domestic thriller, with EastEnders’ Larry Lamb and Emmerdale’s Amy Nuttall also joining the cast.

EastEnders viewers will be hard-pressed to forget Larry’s portrayal of evil villain Archie Mitchell, while EEmmerdale fans will fondly remember when Amy played Chloe Atkinson in the ITV soap.

Jill and Larry are both EastEnders legends

Despite having both played iconic members of the Mitchell family, Jill and Larry discussed how they had never crossed paths before working together on the feud.

Speaking to The One Show hosts Gethin Jones and Clara Amfo, Jill joked that she ‘paved the way’ for Larry to follow in her footsteps on the BBC soap.

Larry, who plays Jill’s on-screen father Terry Dobson in the channel 5 drama, quipped: ‘I came in looking for a daughter, found two, but lost this one!’

He went on to say that working together with Jill was ‘lovely’ – a sentiment that she shared.

Rounding off the cast of The Feud are Ray Fearon, James Fleet, Tessa Peake-Jones, Jamie-Lee O’Donnell, Alex Macqueen, Judith Alexander and Joel Beckett, as well as TV newcomers Megan Trower, Luke Hammond and Joel Kai Ali.

The Feud will air on Channel 5 at 9pm on Monday, April 14.
