Donnie Wahlberg Confirms The First Returning Major Reagan Family Member In Danny’s Boston Blue Spinoff

Boston Blue star Donnie Wahlberg has revealed the first returning Regan Family cast member from sister show Blue Bloods.

Boston Blue is set to have a largely new cast, but Wahlberg’s Danny will be joined by his son Sean Reagan, now played by a recast Mika Amonsen. But that’s not all for the family connection, as the first official Blue Bloods alum is set to join Wahlberg in Boston.

In a post on his Instagram account, Wahlberg revealed that Bridget Moynahan, who plays Erin Reagan, the only daughter of patriarch Frank Reagan, and sister to Wahlberg’s Danny, will appear on the show. He posted a picture of himself and Moynahan together, and a caption discussing her guest appearance in the premiere, and that she will be directing during the season.

What This Means For Boston Blue

Erin’s Appearance Keeps The Strong Familial Bond

At its core, Blue Bloods was always a show about a family looking out for one another and relying on one another in the dangerous world of law enforcement. The return of Erin and Sean to Boston Blue helps the franchise to continue its theme of family, and does an important job of keeping Danny connected to his roots.

Boston Blue Will Benefit From Such An Interesting Character

Erin is one of the most interesting and complex members of the Reagan family, and her relationship with Danny is a definite highlight. Having her follow her brother to Boston is a definite benefit for the show, and can help to capture the sibling dynamics that worked so well in Blue Bloods.

While the anticipation for Boston Blue, and casting choices, offer up the question, why is there a spinoff instead of Blue Bloods season 15?, there is reason for optimism. Boston Blue is a show capable of evolving into something that enhances the existing Blue Bloods narrative, while also being its own thing as well.
